McMurtry Auction to Benefit Hurricane Relief
Proceeds from Ebay Auction will be donated to The American Red Cross
The James McMurtry Band sure did get into the Halloween spirit at their regular midnight show at Continental Club last Wednesday! The band members dressed up in full costume as the cast of The Wizard of Oz (James donning a plaid dress and ruby slippers in his portrayal of Dorothy).
Now, to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy, McMurtry is auctioning off his ruby slippers (which he personally hand-painted and autographed). The proceeds will be donated directly to The American Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund at the end of the auction (Nov. 15, 2013) to help our friends and family get back on their feet.

McMurtry Limited Edition Prints
Limited edition reproductions of original acrylic on canvas hand-painting of James McMurtry
By artist (and McMurtry's drummer), Daren Hess

This fine reproduction on textured William Turner paper captures the light and essence of the original painting of James McMurtry by artist (and drummer) Daren Hess. Each 16 X 20 print is numbered, and autographed by both Hess and McMurtry. The very first in Hess' "From the Road" series,Hess painted the original work in the hotel rooms, greenrooms, and back rooms of McMurtry's 2012 tour of the Southeast (which included the Cayamo Cruise and performances in Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, and Arkansas).

Remarkably, this painting marks the first time in almost 30 years that Daren Hess has put brush to canvas.  Having performed in the McMurtry band for over 14 years, it's no surprise that Hess truly captures the poignant and ever expressive singer-songwriter.

New McMurtry Blog
Sometimes my song,"We Can't Make it Here", seems a bit naive. It's still a pretty good song, and songs don't have time to be fair and balanced. Songs are mostly about emotion. So I still sing it. But I read the New York Times a couple of Sundays ago, and I now understand why we can't competitively produce iphones here.
